Da più di vent'anni il sovescio colora i nostri f Da più di vent'anni il sovescio colora i nostri filari. Abbiamo sempre avuto una particolare attenzione per la natura che ci circonda. Dagli anni 2000 si è concretizzata nell'abbandono totale di fertilizzanti, diserbanti e pesticidi. Il sovescio ammorbidisce la terra, apporta azoto e materia organica, redistribuisce le sostanze nutritive oltre ad attrarre api ed altri insetti con la sua variopinta fioritura. // For more than 20 years, green manure has colored our rows. We have always paid particular attention to the nature that surrounds us. Since the 2000s, the focus has been on the total abandonment of fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. Green manure softens the earth, brings nitrogen and organic matter, redistributes nutrients and nevertheless attracts with its colourful flowering insects and bees.

Pulling back the curtain on a small, family owned company like ours is fun because it offers a glimpse at the heart of the place and in this case at Larry in particular. 

Those who know Larry through tastings often remark at all the rare wines and delectable foods tried at tastings and we who work here feel the same - he regularly shares delicacies of every sort and it is good to relay from the inside that this is neither mere showmanship nor salesmanship alone but to him an essential way of being -recognizing we connect closer and more meaningfully when we share the joys that touch us. 

One case in point is a little email we received last night. Just one of many messages sharing what excites the man and that he thinks we would all love as well.

Though earnest to return to gathering once the time comes, we are pleased to keep in touch remotely for now and to share the pleasures that excite us -which is what sparked the hashtag #winecodrinks back in the day. Follow that for a stream of thrilling wines but here’s the latest tip from our man Larry Colbeck:

“Some of you may know that I’ve tasted a number of wines in my life; my context is substantial. Colleen made pork and ricotta meal balls tonight served with my current favourite pasta; a bucatini from Mancini Pastifico. But the star was the Paitin Barbera d’Alba 2017.”

“I needn’t tell you that barbera by nature is not particularly tannic. The Paitin was as expected but the acids are brighter, more like Dolcetto. This lifted the mid-palette. The flavours are chocolate covered Maraschino cherries subtly conveyed along the palette slowly letting the chocolate come to the front. The mouth feel is so appealing.”

NOTA BENE: we are now onto the 2018 which explains the vintage pictured but it is already tasting sublime and among the best values among our self imports. ♥️

[...] and then the cold started and at the station, at Stella's house, the wine froze and we are at February the 25th with no signs of getting warmer and no one remember such a cold.
